By Phuong Anh · 5 min read · Updated April 2026

Travelling through Vietnam to Phu Quoc island

Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) is located in the centre-north of the island. Sunset Town (An Thoi) — home to the famous night market, cable car, and the quieter south — is about 26 km south, at the opposite tip of the island. Here's every way to make that journey, with real 2026 prices.

Key facts: Airport to Sunset Town (An Thoi): approximately 26 km. Travel time: 35–55 minutes depending on traffic and mode of transport.

Option 1: Grab App (Recommended)

~180,000–250,000 VND

Grab Car from Airport to An Thoi

Grab is Vietnam's dominant ride-hailing app, similar to Uber or Bolt. Download it before arriving in Vietnam. Once you clear arrivals, connect to the airport WiFi, open the app, and book a GrabCar. The driver will meet you outside the terminal.

Prices are fixed before you confirm, so there's no negotiation or surge pricing surprises. Make sure you have a local Vietnamese SIM or working mobile data — the app requires it for driver tracking. SIM cards are available in the arrivals hall at Phu Quoc airport for around 200,000–300,000 VND for 7–30 days of unlimited data.

  • Pros: Fixed price, reliable, air-conditioned, rated drivers
  • Cons: Surge pricing in peak hours (add 20–30%); requires app and data

Option 2: Airport Taxi

~250,000–350,000 VND

Metered Taxi

Several taxi companies operate from the official taxi rank outside arrivals. Look for Mai Linh (green) or Vinasun (white and green). Always insist on the meter — if a driver refuses, walk away and find another taxi. The ride to An Thoi by meter should cost 250,000–350,000 VND depending on traffic.

Avoid unmarked cars or drivers who approach you inside the terminal — these are typically unlicensed and will charge 2–3× the fair rate.

Option 3: Private Airport Transfer (via Sóng n' Sun)

From 250,000 VND

Hotel Pickup — Zero Stress

If you're staying with us, we can arrange a private pickup directly from the airport to the hotel. Message us your flight details on WhatsApp at least 24 hours before arrival and we'll have a driver waiting for you at the arrivals gate with your name on a sign. We work with trusted local drivers we know personally — no surprises.

This is especially worth it for late-night arrivals, families with children, or guests with lots of luggage.

Option 4: Shared Shuttle Bus

~80,000–120,000 VND

Budget Shuttle

Shuttle minibuses depart from the airport car park and stop at hotels along the main route south. They are cheap but slow — the route takes 60–90 minutes as they make multiple stops. Check with the shuttle desk in arrivals for current schedules. Not recommended for late-night arrivals or travellers with tight connections.
