Best beaches in Phu Quoc — pristine white sand and clear blue water

Phu Quoc has more than 150 km of coastline. Not all of it is equal. Some beaches are resort-lined and buzzing; others are empty stretches where you'll share the sand with a handful of fishing boats. Here is an honest assessment of the best beaches on the island, ranked by what kind of traveller they suit.

Bai Khem (Kem Beach)

Closest to Sóng n' Sun — 5 min

The Best Beach in the South

Length2 km of white sand
WaterClear, shallow, calm
CrowdsModerate (partly resort)
FacilitiesSun loungers, restaurants

Bai Khem is just 1.8 km from our hotel — you could walk it in 25 minutes or scooter it in under 5. The beach is split between a public access area and the JW Marriott resort. The public section is perfectly accessible, has its own beach bars, and is consistently among the most beautiful on the island. The sand is fine and white, the water is calm and clear (especially November–April), and the tree-lined edge gives natural shade.

This is the ideal everyday beach for guests staying in An Thoi — close enough for a spontaneous afternoon dip, beautiful enough to never get old.

Bai Sao (Sao Beach)

15 min by scooter

The Most Photographed Beach on the Island

Length3 km
WaterTurquoise, very clear
CrowdsModerate–busy (peak season)
FacilitiesBeach bars, restaurants, sunbeds

Bai Sao is what most travellers picture when they think of Phu Quoc. The water is a vivid, shallow turquoise — almost impossibly blue in the dry season. The sand is bright white and powdery. Unlike Bai Khem, Bai Sao has no large resort blocking sections, so the whole beach is accessible.

It's 12 km from An Thoi (15 minutes by scooter, 20 minutes by Grab). Arrive before 10 AM in peak season for a quiet experience — by noon the beach fills up with tour groups from the north of the island.

Bai Truong (Long Beach)

30 min from An Thoi

Sunset Strip — Bars, Restaurants & Activity

Length20 km (the longest beach)
WaterDecent, some seaweed near shore
CrowdsBusy near Duong Dong
FacilitiesFull resort strip, bars, watersports

Bai Truong runs along the west coast and is the most developed beach on the island. It's home to most of Phu Quoc's international resort hotels and has the densest concentration of beachfront bars and restaurants. The sunset here — looking west over the Gulf of Thailand — is spectacular. If you want a beach with nightlife, bar service, and more social energy, this is your spot.

For pure swimming, the water quality varies. The southern end of Bai Truong (near Ong Lang) is cleaner and calmer than the northern section near Duong Dong town.

Bai Dai (Dai Beach)

50 min from An Thoi

Wild, Empty & Worth the Ride

Length15 km (mostly undeveloped)
WaterWindy in season, great for kite
CrowdsVery low
FacilitiesMinimal — bring water

Bai Dai is in the north of the island, about 48 km from An Thoi. It's the most pristine and least developed major beach on the island. The coastline here is wild — casuarina trees line the shore, and in peak season you can walk for 20 minutes without passing another person. The water is windier than the south, making it ideal for kitesurfing. Bring your own food and water — facilities are sparse.

The ride from An Thoi is scenic but long. Best done as a day trip on a scooter, stopping at pepper farms and Duong Dong market en route.
